John P. Schmelzer is an illustrator and has been one for the last thirty some years. He started his career in Madison Wisconsin where he was born and soon found that there was little call for illustration in cow country. He moved to Chicago in 1980 where he had earlier found a market for his humor and style. His drawings and paintings have been used in ads, editorial pieces, books and consumer products. He has won many awards in advertising and publishing and plans on drawing until he can no longer lift a pencil. John lives with his wife and son and a flock of critters in Oak Park.
